Shipshewana and Summer
This week I made plans for my first trip to Shipshewana, Indiana. I’m so excited that I’m doing little cartwheels around my desk (which is quite a sight). Shipshewana is the setting for my Zondervan books, Shipshewana Amish Mystery Series.
I’ve done quite a lot of research on Shipshewana of course, and I’ve now written 1/3 of the first book. I’m deep into the who-done-it phase. Which is why I’m so thrilled to have the opportunity to spend nearly a week walking through the town, visiting with the folks, and sitting in the gardens.
There are some things that are hard to grasp from research books and internet searches. I like to visit the places I’m writing about. We’re going to be stayed at The Old Carriage Inn, and after talking to the hosts I can already tell we’re going to get along fine.
The best part is that my husband is going to be able to go with me. He knows very little about things Amish, so he’s in for a real treat. And since we’re flying into Chicago, we’re going to end our visit with a little trip to Wrigley Field. Sounds like the perfect summer trip to me–a little vacation, a little work, a little baseball. I’m not sure what else I could ask for.
If you have any hints about researching on-site, or about Shipshewana, please leave a comment. I always appreciate your insights.
