Amish Hymns and Easter Celebrations

I thought I’d share with you a hymn from an Amish hymnal I picked up while in Wisconsin. It’s not like the hymnals at my church. It’s a little stapled together 50 page thing. The cover says, “Ninety-eight Selection Songs, Addition to Church and Sunday School Hymnals.”

The Amish don’t have instruments in their church service, but they do sing! I was surprised to find so many hymns I recognized in this book–How Great Thou Art, Just a Closer Walk with Thee, Precious Memories. About half of the songs I know, and the other half are new to me. The song I’m going to share today seems appropriate for Easter, and it’s one I remember singing as a child.

The Love of God

The love of God is greater far, than tongue or pen can ever tell;

It goes beyond the highest star, and reaches to the lowest hell.

The guilty pair, bowed down with care, God gave His Son to win;

His erring child he reconciled, and pardoned from his sin.

Oh, Love of God, how rich and pure! How measureless and strong!

It shall forever more endure, the saints and angels song.

I pray your Easter is filled with the love and peace of Christ, and the joy of His resurrection.

Blessings,

V
