Anniversaries
Hubby and I celebrated our 22nd anniversary earlier this month. Bob is retired, but he is very busy with his volunteer duties in our town. I have a rather tight writing schedule. Sometimes life needs to slow down a bit–and this seemed like one of those times. We both felt it was super important to pause and celebrate the day. We decided to go hog-wild and visit the town of Hico, Texas.
Yup. Hico is famous because of Billy The Kid, but actually we like it because of its small town hospitality. The Midland Hotel was built in 1896 and has been recently remodeled. The people working there were nice as could be. The restaurant downstairs had excellent food. Bob had short ribs on a bed of black-eyed peas…yes, it was southern!
We took pictures with the HICO sign, sat on the balcony outside our room and watched the sunset over Main Street. We stopped and rested and for 24 hours had no responsibilities.
I’m learning that sometimes slow and easy is nice. Sometimes small towns nurture the soul. And sometimes, just being together is enough.
So how do you celebrate anniversaries and birthdays? Big or small? In the city or in the country? Fav place or somewhere new? I’d love to hear from you.

We are retired and travel full-time in our motorhome. This country is full of small towns like Hico and they are our favorite! We stayed in Hico a few years ago, at their town campground and loved it. The Billy the Kid museum is full of treasures and the local people were a joy to chat with.
Hi Kimberly. Isn’t that Billy the Kid museum a hoot? And the locals are super nice. Your retirement sounds completely awesome to me. Thanks to stopping by.
So fun!! I love these pictures!!! I’ve been to Hico once for a wedding.
I didn’t know you’d been to Hico. We could have met for lunch. Or…after wedding coffee. Something. xoxoxo
Our anniversary is April 15!!! We doing usually celebrate on our day, but during our free time we enjoy visiting small towns here in Texas. Short drive nice getaway and interesting sites, a lot of history. Good good and nice people.
I’m a little late–but happy anniversary, Patricia! I so agree with your idea of a good time. 🙂 Small towns are awesome.
Husband and I will celebrate 64 years this September. As it usually falls on Labor Day weekend, we usually just have a party with family. We have a large family and they all came to our 60th, plus many friends.
Thank you for letting me comment.
Happy anniversary, Marilyn. 64 years is quite the achievement.
Perfect piece of work you have done, this internet site is really cool with excellent info .
I love visiting small towns like Hico. Went to Hico with my bestest girlfriends ?.
This fall I’m looking forward to a long weekend at a house on the beach of Galveston Island. Our son, wife and 3 of their 4 kids will join us there.
Look forward to all your books. Your varied brilliant writing talents are such a blessing.
