An emerging genre in Christian fiction is something called “clean romantic suspense.” Basically it has a little more tension in the plot, but there’s no graphic violence, no adult language, no bedroom scenes. I’ve written a few of these (Hidden and Protected are 2 good examples). They’re always fun to write, and they give me a nice break from my sweet romances which I also love.
A few months ago, I was approached by a group of Christian authors who wanted to put together a 16 novella collection. We called it Summer of Suspense and it landed on the USA Today Bestseller list, which was very cool. We sold that book in ebook format for a few months, and then the stories returned to their author. My contribution was Fading Into the Night, a clean romantic suspense set in Amish country.
Guess what? I had so much fun writing it, that I didn’t want to end the story with a 54 page novella. I wanted to turn it into a full length book. My idea is to write 3 more stories after Fading–#2 is set in Dallas, Texas, and I’m still plotting #3. But for #4, I want to return to an Amish setting. I want to reunite Nora with Benjamin Lapp. It’s going to be fun, fun, fun.
This series centers around cyber terrorism, a topic that I’m fascinated with. As with my Remnant series, I firmly believe that God can handle a shift in our culture. Yeah, it would be hard to learn to live without technology–whether it’s for a night or for a lifetime. But I like envisioning how we would do that, how we would pull together and rely on our faith. (BTW, the entire Remnant Series is on sale…you can purchase all 3 ebooks for under $6.)
If you haven’t already read Fading Into the Night, I hope you’ll give it a try. It released today as an individual title. Again, it’s a novella that’s 54 pages long, and it’s the beginning of a new series. (Once all 4 books are finished, I’ll combine them and offer them in print form). Midnight Strike (book 2) will release in less than a month, and it will be a bit longer…between 80-100 pages.
I’m committed to offering my indie books to all of my readers, so these books are available through all vendors including iBooks, Kobo, Nook, and more.
I always enjoy hearing from you. And if you have any question about writing, the Amish, or publishing, feel free to leave it in the comment section below. ~Vannetta
