The Office Space

How’s everyone doing? I hope you’re enjoying these blogs (and Vlogs) from my back porch. Actually, today’s is from my office, but the point is to have an informal, laid-back conversation between us. I loved your comments and very much enjoyed reading about your fav flowers on last week’s post!

This week I wanted to give you a little tour of my office. (If you’re receiving this blog via email, you probably have to click on the title and go to my sight to see the video.)

My office was actually my son’s bedroom until I told him I needed it. He moved out to an apartment and the rest is history! It’s a small room, as you’ll see in the video, probably 10 feet by 10 feet. Kind of plain and simple, but it works for me. What about you? Do you have a special place in your house where you work or craft? For a while, mine was the dining room table! Leave a comment describing YOUR SPOT, and we’ll pull a winner for a free book. (Last week’s winner was Kimberly T.)

Announcements for this week:

  • Shelley Shepard Gray and I will be meting for our Girlfriends Getaway in Charm, OH. If you’re going, I’m looking forward to meeting you! If you can’t come–we’ll be having on-line prizes for those who follow us on Facebook and twitter.
  • Deep Shadows is now available for pre-order. This is the first book in my new dystopian series. Don’t know what dystopian is? Read my blog post at the Diamond Mind of Christian Fiction. You can now pre-order Deep Shadows. All vendors offer a pre-order price guarantee, so if the price goes down before the item is released, you receive the lower price. **Amazon ** B&N ** CBD.
  • My May rafflectopter giveaway is live through 6-22, and it’s easy to enter daily. Check here for details. This month’s giveaway includes something I picked up in Shipshewana, a $10 Starbucks card and more!

Time to turn off the computer and head to the back porch. Bob’s waiting for me with both dogs. I hope you enjoyed today’s video, and I’d love to hear about YOUR fav spot. Leave a comment on the blog, and I’ll draw a winner to receive a complimentary copy of the book of your choice from my book list.

I live in a slit-level home, and my special “me” place is in the southwestern room on the lowest level. There are Windows that allow me to watch the birds while I am doing things in my office. I have my stereo and a bookcase in there, too.

My spot is in the living room, never used but quiet and cozy. I also love to be outside on the deck in my swing when it’s warmer!

My favorite spot to do my school work (I’m a teacher) is sitting on my couch with the coffee table filled with all my needed supplies. In my beach house, my favorite spot is a dining room table totally dedicated for my work! I have all my teacher supplies on it, so it’s always full except for the working space. I keep the blinds open so I can can see outside. It works for me. My TV and computer are nearby, so I don’t mind working at all. Certain TV programs/shows work best for me while I’m working: The Walton’s, Little House on the Prairie, and westerns! What a combination, huh?

Recently, my husband redid my laundry room to make it more functional as a sewing area. He had recently bought me a new machine and wanted to make sure he got his money’s worth. LOL My daughter comes over a lot and we sew together and that’s really what makes it special! Always enjoy seeing where people are creative. Thank you for sharing your space!

Love the video and love hearing your voice! Thanks for the tour! I do a lot of stuff at my dining room table, but, also, our smallest bedroom is my “offy”. My nieces couldn’t say office when they were little, so, they called it Mimi’s “offy” and that has stuck. I have papers and books all over the place. 🙂

Love your office room . I have a sewing and craft room , but it stays so full . I do my cut outs in my sewing room , but. May carry my machine to the kitchen table to Sew and the ironing board to press . I will probably lay my quilts out in the kitchen floor or the living room …now my reading in the summer time I live to go to my enclosed patio .. Or my recliner .. Thanks for the video . I enjoyed it .

I am lucky I have a small table in the kitchen an I can look outside while reading or doing review. I am happy with what ever space I have. I also have several small birds that come to eat and so does fluffy squirrel every day.

When I am not on the computer or watching tv or walking the yard, I guess my favorite spot is my hut. It is where Tyler (my sweet dog) and I sleep. I read for several hours while he snoozes. It is actually an 8X10 renovated horse barn. I have a raised bed that we sleep on and a tin roof that sounds wonderful when it rains. I cannot read anywhere else and love going out there at night. Oh love your office!!

I love your private space! It’s you! It reflects all the personal touches that I see through our friendship. Mine is my daughter’s old room that I redid in colors that I love, a wall unit of book shelves from IKEA, my sewing machine and quilting stash, and various personal touches much like yours. I love spending time in that private space until my dear husband starts calling me on my cell phone from downstairs. “Where are you? What are you doing?” Argh! Time to turn the phone OFF! 🙂

We live in a small 2 bedroom villa, so when we moved in the front foyer area is my area where I quilt and make blankets. I have a quilting table that pulls out and expands so it works perfectly.

I Have a smaller bedroom where I play on my computer, write out cards and pay our bills. It also serves as an extra bedroom when needed.

The 3rd bedroom has been my sewing room for many years. The cutting table is set up in what would be the dining room but with just 2 of us that space is best used for my purpose. The ironing board is on the opposite side of the sewing room. So I sew for a while, get up and press for a while, repeat. Thankful for my space.

I love my office. I have a large oak desk that I got at a garage sale years ago. It is huge and works well for me. I really enjoy having 2 screens, also. I have 2 computer monitors. I prefer using my desktop PC as opposed to a laptop. I have a very comfortable desk chair, so I can lean back and put my feet up, if I’m reading. Also in my office, I have two comfortable chairs for guests, and lots of book shelves in addition to a large mission style cabinet that my husband built for me.

My ‘office’ is absolutely tiny – about 5 1/2 by 6 foot, but is my little space where I go on the internet, read the papers and relax – I watch all my TV through the internet in there too. I love sitting in there in summer with the fan on. I think because that’s all I use it for, I associate it with relaxing. My little neighbor is 10 and she plays on the computer there while I sit on the desk.

My spot is the recliner in the living room. I have a small table beside it that has my “important” papers/notes on it. I read and browse the internet while sitting here listening to the radio.

  16. Cherese akhavein

My spot is in my bedroom, I have a old hutch my grandmother gave me years ago that I painted a fun color and refinished in in a way to make it more a work space. Mostly I read in this space, and spend time sending cards to my Amish friend, and family,

  17. Jeanine Kowalewski

Unfortunately I do not have a dedicated work space. Most things happen at the kitchen table or while sitting on my bed or the couch. Ah, the joys of a small house. Makes for a lot of togetherness for our family of four!

My best pc sits by a front window so I can keep up with the goings on out front…,my cats, stray dogs, traffic on the road, smell if my cooking needs attention across the bar in the kitchen, (lol) and I can jump up to make pics of deer that cross my yard.

Thanks for the office tour, Vannetta. We did like you and turned our son’s bedroom into an office, when he left for college. We have a computer, desk and a loaded bookcase. We love books! A friend once told me the first thing they looked for when visiting someone was a bookcase with books.

yes i do. i gave my office to my daughter when she moved back home, but i was able to set it upin the cornor of the living room works just as good, i can stop and watch tv if i want, close to my book shelves so can read if i want. and even look out the windows at God creatures and beauty

Our spare guest room also doubles as my office space. Unfortunately it’s a mess right now, need to find time to do a good cleaning.

  22. Kay

My “office” is basically the corner of our sunroom. And sunroom is not quite the correct term, but that is what is was supposed to be, lol. I have an armoire desk with my computer and tons of scraps of paper. Oh and a wonderful desk made out of tall tubs that house Tyler’s treats, 🙂

  23. Elma Brooks

Hi, thanks for the tour and video,i guess my favorite spot is the kitchen table ,and then its in the living room in a oversized recliner to read then I’m outside on my deck ,late evenings listening to the birds and reading, guess you should say I’m all over the place ….then I’m in my bedroom my better reading place.

  24. Casey

I use part of my bedroom as an office area. Yes my pets are allowed in. Love reading your work. Enjoy Ohio with Shelley this weekend wish I could be there.

  25. Linda Golubski

I do have an “office space”. Use it to meditate and read devotionals in the morning at the little reading area created. But my new favorite spot is the enclosed back porch we just finished it has picture windows overlooking the wooded area behind our home with the wildlife grazing.

  26. Valorie Smith

My basement, when not stuffed to the brim with teacher stuff is where I scrapbook, tie fleece blankets and have my Amish book collection.
