Can I Get an Amen?

bf9e48c1faeaa2ca0825714b371fc8b4World events have a way of darkening our outlook on life. Such tragedy and pain and hopelessness. But it occurs to me that as Christians we represent the opposite of those things. We stand for victory and healing and hope. So I thought this week I’d take a moment to share some of the verses that help me during dark times.

Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. ~Luke 6:38

Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. ~Colossians 3:15

When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. ~Psalm 56:3

Want more verses about dealing with fear and anxiety? There’s a good list here. Especially during dark times, we need to encourage and lift up one another. So how about it? What verse would you like to share? Leave a comment with your fav verse or an encouraging comment and you’ll be entered to win one of my Pebble Creek stories. Our winner last week was Rory, and I’ve already sent her an email.

For me, along with reading Scripture, especially the Psalms, in trying times, it’s worship music that calms my soul. One that I listen to a lot lately is a new version of “It is Well”, but I also love the old hymn. I also selfishly have to turn off the news sometimes. It’s not that I don’t want to know what is happening, but it’s gets to be overwhelming to hear about it over and over and have it analyzed and commented on so much. I think of when I was a child and we heard about JFK’s death. It affected everyone in the world, and everyone remembers where they were and what they were doing when they heard that terrible news. We didn’t grieve any less because we didn’t get constant feedback on what everyone had to say about the tragedy.

Psalm 4:8 I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, Lord, only makest me dwell in safety. This was my favorite verse when at 35 years old I was widowed with two young sons and I had a hard time sleeping. God is so faithful and He would give me the sweet sleep I needed to care for my children in a very difficult time.

Exodus 15:2– “The Lord is my strength and my defense: he has become my salvation. He is my God, and I will praise Him, my Father’s God, and I will exalt him.” NIV

Reading the Psalms are wonderful during difficult times. One of my favorite verses is Isaiah 41:10 “Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.” (KJV)

Isaiah 41:10 is a great verse – So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. NIV

You know I find that in the peace on God’s beauty when I’m really quiet and really listen you can learn more about life and yourself than you thought you could. It’s when we resist and try to control our outcome when we have so many problems in our life. God is good he gives us all the answers if we listen and open our heart and soul to really hear the unspoken words he sends our way.

I have many favorite verses I like to refer to to get me through rough times and offer me encouragement. One of my favorites is John 16:33.
I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trial and sorrows. But take heart because I have overcome the world.

Really like today’s post(2 Timothy 1:7), if you’re thinking about me, I’m paying attention with eyes, ears and mind wide open.
