May Flowers

Christian book awards, Gardening Comments: 20

Last week we talked about the back porch and what an awesome place it is to rest and unwind, whether it’s an actual back porch, a deck, or simply a lawn chair behind the house. I loved your comments. I felt like we had a nice visit — on the back porch!

This week I wanted to share some pics of my back porch flowers. Nothing fancy here. Basically things that survived my UN-green thumb. What about you? Leave me a comment about your favorite flower, and we’ll draw a winner. (Last week’s winner was Donna B.)

Announcements for this week:

  • I learned that Anna’s Healing is a finalist for the Christy award. I’m excited and humbled and thrilled. Winners will be announced in June.
  • Shelley Shepard Gray and I are finalizing plans for our Girlfriends Getaway in Charm, OH. We hope to see you there, but if you can’t come–we’ll be having on-line prizes for those who follow us on Facebook and twitter. Keep an eye out over the weekend of May 20th!
  • Deep Shadows is now available for pre-order. This is the first book in my new dystopian series. Don’t know what dystopian is? Read the blurb for Deep Shadows here. For Amazon, the pre-order price is guaranteed, so if the price goes down before the item is released, you receive the lower price. **Amazon ** B&N ** CBD.
  • My May rafflectopter giveaway is now live. Check here for details. This week’s giveaway includes something I picked up in Shipshewana, a $10 Starbucks card and more!

Time to stop working, pour myself a glass of tea and head to the back porch. I hope you enjoyed today’s pics, and I’d love to hear about YOUR gardening efforts. Leave a comment on the blog, and I’ll draw a winner to receive a complimentary copy of the book of your choice from my book list.

Blessings,

V

My favorite flower is sweet peas. Mama and Daddy had them growing on the fence in the back yard. Every afternoon, when the sunshine hit them, they would pop open and the most beautiful flower and fragrance would appear. I love those special memories.

When I lived in New Hampshire, my favorites were lilacs. Now that I live in Florida, my favorites are magnolias.

I have room for 4 hanging basket’s on my deck. I usually put Impatients in them then I have a 3 tiered plant stand that I fix each pot differently. This year Iam going red white and blue. Enjoy sitting out there in my roker watching the flowers sipping a cold glass of tea.

I really like the wildflowers I see here in Texas. The Wine Cup is beautiful, as is Mountain Pink. Look them up, they are beautiful!

The Iris is my favorite flower because that is the name of one of my granddaughters. She is beautiful, as are her two sisters, and she will be 3 years old in July.

Lily of the Valley for me…. the fragrance wafts over our neighborhood even though it’s such a tiny flower. I guess it’s the same as how one person can make a difference in the world.

Thanks Vannetta for reminding us to slow down and appreciate the beautiful things around us. I am a terrible gardener but you have reminded me of the beautiful garden I grew up with. I’m sure our flowers are very different down here in Australia but my dad grew amazing gladioli. A flock of cockatoos just flew over my house making lots of noise while I was reading everyone’s posts here and I stopped and listened and appreciated how beautiful our plants and wildlife are, no matter where we live.

I love flowers! Iris are now blooming in my yard. I enjoy how when one perennial stops blooming there’s another one starting to bloom. I fill in spaces with pots of annuals. A fun time of year for me for sure. Enjoyed seeing your flower pictures.

I love to plant flowers and houseplants. I don’t do anything really high-maintenance, like orchids. Mostly, everything grows well.

My husband is the gardener in our family. He usually plants and tends to them and I pick them and cook them. This year he has had some fast growing cataracts that really messed with his vision. They finally did one eye last week and the other will be done next week. I have learned to do a lot more than I used to. The exercise has been great for me. Our biggest problem has been keeping the deer from eating everything.

My favorite flowers are hydrangeas and roses. My yard doesn’t get enough sun to keep much alive, but I enjoy cut flowers inside the house. I hope Anna’s Healing wins!

my favorite flowers are sunflowers, (any shape, size, or color) snapdragons, (because they were my mama’s favorite) especially the bright yellow ones, and begonias, the deep pink or red shades. So far…all mine are house plants…my love is building me flower boxes for the the front yard…then I’ll really consider it a garden!
